Understanding and Supporting children and young people with a dual diagnosis of ADHD and Autism.

In this session, I will explore the increasing prevalence of the diagnosis of AuDHD. Studies suggest that between 30- 50% of children and young people with one diagnosis also meet the criteria for the other. The session will look into how we view this dual diagnosis- two conditions? one more dominant? Conflicting? or, more realistically, a unique neurocognitive condition which impact show autistic elements and ADHD elements will present differently because of the co-occurrence. Following this, the session will offer practical strategies for educators, including, environments, memory, sensory needs and regulating and supporting attention.
