Why is primary mathematics as scary as running a marathon?

Maths fear and anxiety can be a real thing for our children and can stem from sitting in too many lessons that are pitched inappropriately for their starting points. When teachers have a clear understanding of children’s starting points and are clear on the journey through a progression step, children can develop the independence and confidence needed to thrive during mathematics lessons.
In this workshop, we will look at the importance of identifying children’s starting points and how to build their understanding of key concepts through the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations and effective questioning.
