Semi-speaking is a communication identity that has evolved to describe the internal experiences of people who have access to speech and have periods when they are unable to access speech. This can be for a wide range of reasons including distress, intense joy, fatigue and overwhelm. In this workshop we will explore semi-speaking and potential differences/ overlap with selective mutism. This workshop will also discuss practical ways to support the children in your class/ school to explore their communication identity and communicate in a way that works for them. This includes understanding communication capacity and using technology/ communication apps.
