Mixed-Age Maths Without Doubling Your Work: Making mixed-age mathematics manageable

Teaching mathematics in a mixed-age classroom can mean meeting the needs of learners spanning two, three or even four-year groups, but it shouldn’t mean planning and delivering multiple separate maths lessons.  This practical session explores how teachers can identify connections across mathematical topics, establish shared starting points and provide appropriate challenge for learners working at different stages.  We will consider how careful curriculum organisation, questioning, representation and task design can reduce teacher workload while maintaining high expectations.  Delegates will leave with practical approaches for making mixed-age mathematics manageable, purposeful and effective within the Curriculum for Wales.
