AI-enhanced reading for all: Removing barriers, raising expectations

With increasing complexity of need across settings and a national shift towards adaptive teaching and inclusive literacy, this session demonstrates how generative AI and assistive technology can remove barriers to reading while maintaining ambition. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and current literacy research, delegates will explore how to design reading tasks that are accessible from outset, co-created, personalised, and developmentally appropriate. We will examine how to support decoding, fluency and comprehension through UDL and inclusive literacy. The message is we don’t lower the challenge; we remove the barrier so every learner can access ambitious texts and make progress.
