Closing the disadvantage gap: We need to talk about Jason

This session will focus on children and young people who grow up in poverty. Jean will explore myths and wrong turnings in our efforts to close the gap in attainment between these disadvantaged learners and their peers. She will suggest effective approaches, from a focus on oracy through to attending to children’s sense of agency. You will learn about the power of building confidence, belonging and connectedness, take your own self-efficacy test and discover a host of simple but effective gap-closing classroom techniques.
