Regulate, Motivate, Engage: Rethinking readiness to learn in ALN/SEND

What happens when a learner has the cognitive ability to learn but is not yet regulated, motivated or able to engage? This practical session explores the relationship between regulation, motivation, engagement and learning. We will consider sensory differences, communication, relationships and cognitive demand, challenging assumptions that disengagement automatically means inability or poor behaviour. Delegates will explore practical adaptations that maintain ambition while reducing barriers to learning. The aim is simple, understand the learner more deeply so that support creates access, independence and meaningful progress within inclusive classrooms.
